Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS)

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) was established by Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM) in 1981 to meet the growing demand for management education in India. In 2003, NMIMS was declared a deemed-to-be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. The consistent academic quality, research focus, presence of faculty from top national and global institutes, and strong industry linkages at NMIMS have placed it amongst the nation’s prime centres of educational excellence and research.
With the legacy of 37 years, NMIMS has grown into a flourishing university with six campuses at Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Shirpur, Indore and Navi Mumbai and 14 constituent schools of Management, Engineering, Pharmacy, Architecture, Commerce, Business Economics, Science, Law, Aviation, Liberal Arts, Design, Family Business & Entrepreneurship, Performing Arts, and Distance Learning.
NMIMS University has 14000+ students and 500+ full-time faculty members.

The School of Business Management (SBM) is one of India’s premier business schools. It is situated in the heart of Mumbai - the financial hub and nerve centre of the country. The School has 75+ faculty and 1400 students in its full time program. The SBM educational experience aims to equip students with a bedrock of management skills to help them navigate through the complex business environment of today. A dynamic curriculum, designed in conjunction with academics and industry practitioners, provides them multifarious opportunities to master new skills and explore varied perspectives.
The School uses the case method as its chief pedagogical tool to bring to the classroom real world business scenarios that provide compelling opportunities amidst challenging settings. The emphasis here is on practical knowledge and personalized learning. SBM has an abundance of intellectual capital in the form of faculty members who are renowned in their respective fields and are committed to creating a dynamic learning environment at the School.
Driven by its credo that social sensitivity is critical for holistic management education, SBM ensures that students are sensitized to respond to the changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge for creating a sustainable society.
The School:
  • Disseminates knowledge through diverse courses and top-class facilities, providing an ideal learning environment for future business leaders with a strong competitive mind-set.
  • Strikes the right balance between challenge and support to help students pursue and accomplish their goals.
  • Promotes the development of multi-functional competencies necessary for a student to be an effective manager.
  • Allows students to take risks and stretch themselves beyond their comfort zones and areas of expertise.
  • Fosters a culture of interaction between students, faculty and alumni to build a lasting business network.
The SBM MBA class is competitive with each student in the program having a unique background in terms of previous academic and work experience. The program’s atmosphere is incredibly challenging and the level of intellectual interactions with the other students, both inside and outside the classroom, is considered, by far, the most rewarding aspect. In addition, all the members of the faculty do their best to make students feel part of the school.
SBM’s management programs emphasise on holistic learning with a focus on curricular and co-curricular aspects. To this end,
  • The program structure is compared with that of peer business schools.
  • The civic engagement program, with a three-week internship, is made compulsory for all full time students.
  • Outbound training has been made an integral part of the learning process for all MBA students.
  • Case study and other participant centric learning methods have been adopted across all MBA programs.
  • Unique industry owned elective courses have been introduced.
  • Industry projects have been included as a part of the course curriculum to make learning practical.
  • Workshops on contemporary topics are organised to provide value addition to students.
  • Group projects are included in most courses to augment team learning.

NMIMS has successfully carved a niche for itself among the country’s premier educational institutions, a fact borne out by the many prestigious awards and honors to its credit.
  • The University has recently achieved Government of India NAAC (National Assessment & Accreditation Council) Accreditation of A+ and Tier I graded autonomy status granted to 29 universities out of 900 universities in India.
  • In OUTLOOK Magazine’s (June 2018) Private/Deemed Universities ranking, NMIMS University ranked 5th in the Top 20 Private Universities and 7th in the Top 50 Pvt/Deemed Universities.
  • The NMIMS School of Business Management was recently accredited by AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). Management Programs at Bengaluru and Hyderabad are accredited by AMBA (Association of MBAs).
  • In 2018, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked NMIMS 24th among the top management schools in India.
